1.Application :
This machine is designed for lapping and polishing of high-precision flat surface. Such as mechanical
seal rings, new ceramic grinding plates, hydraulic oil pump accessories, etc. By using different lapping
discs and polishing liquid, aluminum, copper, iron, carbide, engineering plastic, alumina and silicon
carbide can also be lapped.
2.Structure & Features:
Features: Equipped With pneumatic cylinder, easy adjustment and operation; Also equipped with an
automatic & timed lapping fluid adding device; Adapting three-phase converter to achieve variable
speed change;Using worm gear reducer. Advantages: Small size, high efficiency, stable operation, low
noise, long life. It is suitable choice for lapping and polishing medium-sized seal rings. The polishing
disc diameter φ650, which can lap rings with diameter of φ240mm maximum.
3.Main Technical Parameters :
1. Motor: 2.2KW ;1430 rpm (with 3kw converter)
2. Polishing plate size: 650mm x 150mm (Outer diameter x inner diameter)
3. The maximum diameter can be lapped: 240mm
4. The thinnest thickness can be lapped: 1mm
5. Flatness(after being polished): 0.0006mm. Roughness: Ra 0.05μm
6.Machine Dimension: 900mm x 1100mm x 1900mm (length x width x height)
7.Machine Weight: 1600Kg
4.Installation :
Placed on a flat solid concrete floor, calibrated with a spirit level
5.Operation and precautions :
1.Clean the worktable , dead wights and conditioning rings.
2.Clean the workpiece to avoid inclusion of debris.
3.Discharge the workpiece in 3 conditioning rings, leaving Ø30mm-Ø60mm space in the middle.
Switch on the air supply and set the total air inlet pressure to 0.3-0.4Mpa. Pressurization and
set the air pressure to 0.05-0.2 Mpa (pressurizing 0.1 Mpa is equivalent to applying 20 kg
pressure to the workpiece). The lapping fluid pressure is set to 0.02-0.04 Mpa.
4.Turn on the power, start the machine, set a reasonable polishing time. Set the time for
adding the polishing liquid (usually 5 seconds spraying every 1 minute).
5. After work, be sure to take the conditioning ring and the workpiece out of the machine. It is
forbidden to keep them on the lapping plate overnight to prevent rust from corroding the
grinding disc and damage the converter when restart.
6. The machine tool should be always kept clean and tidy . Clean inspection should be conducted
when the shift is over. Before the holiday, countertops and some other major parts should
be protected against rust.
7. The machine should be operated by skilled personnel only.
8. Only professional maintenance personnel can carry out maintenance, and it is strictly forbidden
to install and disassemble the machine and change any spare parts of the machine.
6.Refueling lubrication:
1. Use 46# gear oil for turbine box, change oil once after the maching is running for 100 hours.
Afterward, change the oil every 6 months. The oil level should be maintained at 1/3 or more.
7.Trim polishing plate:
After the disc is worn out, it must be machined on the lathe and then trimmed. The emery or white
steel jade sand, brown steel jade sand, and green silicon carbide sand are used for the repair. Sand
particle size generally between 100-200 meshes. Trim the polishing plate with a trimming ring. When
the polishing plate is convex, the trimming ring moves towards the center; Otherwise it moves
outwards; If it is wavy, then one ring moves towards the center, one ring moves to the outside and
the other ring remains in place. The trimming ring movement generally does not exceed 5mm.
8.Defect analysis and troubleshooting
Possible Problem:Scratch
Possible Causes:1.Scraps of the workpiece. 2.Coarse sand is mixed in polishing liquid.
Solutions: 1.Clean workpiece 2. Change polishing liquid 3. Trim polishing plate
Possible Problems:Not Shinning enough
Possible Causes:1.Quality of Abrasive paste is poor 2.Workpiece is green. 3.Plate line on
Table-board is shallow 4. Polishing time is too short
Solutions:1.Change abrasive paste 2.Change workpiece 3.Adding plate line 4.Set an
reasonable polishing time
Possible Problems:Poor flatness
Possible Causes:1.Table board is uneven 2.Polishing time is too short.
Solutions:Trim polishing plate 2.Prolong Polishign time
Possible Problems:Machine can not be started
Possible Causes:phase error of motor
Solutions:Change the connection phase
9.Accessories:
1) 3 pieces of conditioning rings. 2) 6 pieces of Isolation panels. 3) 1 piece of hex wrench.

How to choice the ideal polish and lapping machine ?
As you are already aware, machines for lapping/polishing mechanical seals basically divided into Soft Lapping / Soft polishing and Hard Lapping / Hard Polishing.
In Mechanical seals, you have seals of SS, Hardened steel, Coated like Stellite and some non-ferrous applications also. The lapping of these materials are usually by Abrasive slurry and polishing usually by 4/0 Emery sheet by hand, else with polishing pads and polishing slurries.
Hard lapping / Polishing – Usually referred to the use of Synthetic or Natural Diamond as abrasive. And again not all lapping or polishing application calls for the same abrasive.
And the selection of Vehicle or lapping media is very important.
For Carbon, SiC, TiC and Ceramic - the plates should be different, i.e. 3 plates, but again Ceramic if lapping and polishing is to be done, m/c's should be separate and plates separate for rough polishing and fine polishing.
With Paraflat, we have never given a quote to any customer off-hand, we always insist on knowing the details of the part/s to be lapped or polished, the previous operation, output quantity planned per shift of 8 hours, part drawings, etc. This practice helps us make a proper recommendation.
* For other lap plates of Copper, etc, if required, the prices will be different.
* Kindly also confirm the power supply details.
Hence it is always better if the user/client’s requirement is known before hand to make a correct recommendation, else lot of time is spent making corrections and clarifications.
